On October 18th and 19th, in Washington DC, the Colon Cancer Alliance will be hosting a bold, new fundraising event - the TWO-Day Colon Cancer March. This 40-mile, weekend walk from Leesburg, Virginia to our nation's capital will promote colon cancer awareness and education while raising sorely needed funds for the CCA and its partnering beneficiaries. Our chance to make a dramatic difference in the fight against colon cancer has arrived. I invite you to go to the TWO-Day website or call the event office to learn more about the March and ways to get involved:

I am Marcher number 1403. Please help me reach my goal of $4,000 (that's $1,000 for each year of diagnosis) by making a donation now. I appreciate your support in helping the fight against colon cancer.
About Me
My name is Debbie Sparks and I live in Marysville, Ohio. I am a stage IV colon cancer survivor. I have had multiple recurrences since my original diagnoses in 1999. The road has not been easy but I am doing well now. The 40 mile road from Leesburg, VA to Washington, DC will not be easy for me either. Exercise is not part of my normal daily routine but I am determined to do the Two-Day Colon Cancer March. Every mile I walk will be a step further away from this beast. Here is my story.
I was diagnosed January 1999 while having a cyst removed from my ovary. Two months later I was scheduled for a colon resection and a complete hysterectomy. From April 1999 to November 1999 I had chemo treatments of 5FU/leuc. A spot appeared on my lung in January 2000. That fall I had a wedge resection to the left lung. No further treatment was done at that time. In January 2001, I went to the emergency room due to rectal bleeding. A CT scan showed a small spot in the soft tissue close to the tailbone. Two months later, I had the small tumor removed along with intra-operative radiation. I then followed up with 5 weeks of external radiation. I am happy to report that it has been 2+ years since my last surgery and am considered disease free! This is the longest period I have gone without the disease returning.
